The Supplement That Keep Your Lips Soft

To tame chapped lips this winter, you probably know the following guidelines: opt for lip balms filled with emollients that strengthen the skin barrier, such as ceramides and fatty acids; use a lip scrub to remove flakes manually, and apply a lip mask overnight to moisturize the skin.

But what if this drought continues? Perhaps it’s time to address the type internally: some beauty supplements contain ingredients to improve skin hydration and maintain skin thickness (such as hyaluronic acid and collagen peptides), but wait – there is an underestimated supplement that can help you get a soft and supple pout.*

The supplement that can support soft lips.

Your skin is a reflection of your inner health, and it constantly sends you signals — a cracked pout is a sure signal for more moisture, but in some matter it can also indicate nutritional deficiencies. “Dry lips can also be a sign of a vitamin [deficiency] like B vitamins or zinc,” says mbg IFE J. Rodney, MD, FAAD, founding director of Eternal Dermatology + Aesthetics, about chapped skin. In particular, the food gaps in folate, B6, B12, and B2 (also known as riboflavin) have all been associated with chapped lips.

An iron gap has also been linked to a dry and cracked pout — which makes sense given the mineral’s ability to aid healing processes.* Zinc is also important for healthy skin, * and its deficiency has been linked to dryness around the mouth.

If you think you could cope with any of these nutritional deficiencies, you can always “add a supplement or a multivitamin after talking to your doctor,” suggests Rodney. Of course, you can always opt for a standalone supplement to fill in certain gaps — like a separate zinc or B complex – but a robust multivitamin can help you cover all your bases at once.* Yes, a high-quality multi can help smooth out your pout, provided that it contains the essential nutrients that we talked about above.*

Something to keep in mind: many multivitamins do not contain the eight B vitamins – and when they do, they are often not in their bioactive formats or in strong doses. “We intentionally formulated this next-generation multi to contain an integrated, powerful and complete B complex that contains 200% or more of the daily value of the eight B vitamins,” says Ashley Jordan Ferira, director of science at mbg, Ph.D., RDN, about our Ultimate multivitamin+. “It also introduces the eight B in their bioactive forms-including folate (5 — MTHF) and vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin) methylation technology – to optimize bioavailability and bioactivity in the body for all consumers.”*

In addition to B vitamins, our multi also provides essential macro and microminerals, including iron and zinc in chelated form (which means they are easier on the stomach), as well as copper, manganese, potassium, iodine, selenium and even silica in bamboo traces. (Silicon dioxide, for what it’s worth, can give the multi other benefits beauty: research shows that the mineral is able to promote the strength and thickness of the hair and reduce the breakage of the hair.*)
